PVT US Army Air Corps
World War II
July 23, 1919 - September 2, 1995

James Ray Linn or "Jack" was the third son of Robert Benjamin Linn and Jessie Lee JAMES. He married Ethel L. Turner on December 3, 1938 in Yellville, Marion County, Arkansas. They had two children, a son and a daughter. Tragically, their son, James was hit and killed by a drunk driver on his prom night on May 3, 1956 in Genesee County, Michigan. James was only 16 years old when he died (16 Nov 1940 to 3 May 1956). Uncle Jack never recovered from the death of his only son.

Jack proudly served in World War II along with his four brothers, William Robert, LeRoyce, Charles Rudolph and Robert Benjamin Jr. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps on 13 June 1944 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana (his brother Robert also joined the Air Corps). Jack was a Private in the war. His military service took him to the Pacific and he was in the Philippines. He witnessed some horrific events that haunted him until his death.

Jack initially worked in the GM factories in Flint, Michigan, but left the shop to raise quarter horses for harness racing. He did very well in this and saw many of his horses win races, not only in Michigan, but in states around the country.
