Catherine HYSAW LINN

Walker Cemetery
Poinsett County,
Arkansas

b. 9 Jul 1848 in Washington Co., Arkansas, USA
d. 1905 in Weiner, Poinsett Co., Arkansas, USA

According to our father, Catherine's grandson, when dad was a little boy his father, Robert, told him that his mother, Catherine, said when she was a girl her papa owned a road house. Catherine said that Jesse and Frank James and their gang used to come to the road house and she would serve them meals. This is interesting because our father's mother was named Jessie Lee James [after Jesse James and Robert E. Lee] and Jessie is supposed to have a family connection with Frank and Jesse James.

Catherine, when she was a little girl, was at home when a man running from the Indians, ran to her fathers road house to hide. The Indians chased him there, so he ran out into the swamp to hide. The Indians sent Catherine in to find him. She never died, but said that she could hear him breathing. She waited until the Indians left to come out of the swamp.

Catherine was said to be part Choctaw Indian. According to her grandson, Catherine and Robert left Illinois and were headed back to Texas because Catherine had TB. They passed through Arkansas and never left the area.
