Lloyd Franklin Caubble was born 3 March 1922 at Wynne, Arkansas, the son of Columbus Hayden and Lula May Averill Caubble. He had two brothers: Wamer and Paul and three sisters: Esma, Freida and Fannie. He entered school at Wynne and in the first grade and graduated in the Wynne High School Class of 1942. Lloyd was a lineman on the High School football team.
Soon after graduation, Lloyd entered the Army Air Force and was stationed in Iowa and Wyoming. In April 1943, he was sent to the European Theater and was stationed "somewhere" in England. His family still has two letters he wrote to his mother.
Lloyd was on his 25th mission over enemy territory when his Fortress was shot down over the North Sea. His family was informed that he "was missing in action" on 20 October 1943. In 1944, the designation was changed to "Finding of Death."
The Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters were awarded to Tech. Sergeant Lloyd F. Caubble's mother, Mrs. Lula Caubble, in impressive ceremonies at the Newport Army Air Force Field. The D.F.C. was awarded for Sergeant Caubble's extraordinary achievements while serving as radio operator and gunner over enemy-occupied continental Europe. In addition, Lloyd received the Purple Heart Medal.
