Mrs. Alice Mae Lucas, 74, Route 2, Crossett, died in a Houston, Tex., hospital Saturday morning after a brief illness. She had been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Sidney Singer, there when she was stricken. A former resident of El Dorado, Mrs. Lucas was born May 4, 1890, in Calhoun County, the daughter of Jim and Martha Johnson McGuire. She had resided in Crossett for the past seven years. Her survivors include two sons, Floyd M. Lucas, Houston, and James R. Lucas, Crossett; two daughters, Mrs. Singer and Mrs. Fred Brodnax, Monroe, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Vertie Caldwell, El Dorado and Mrs. Josie Couston, Camden; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Rumph Mortuary with the Rev. John Hayden officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery, near Bearden. (The El Dorado Times - April 26, 1965)
