A service for Fern E. (Woods) (Burleson) (Farmer) Edgin of Mt. Home will be private. Ms. Edgin died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the age of 85.
She was born in Lone Rock area on Sep 7, 1916, to Loranza Z. Woods and Louis Iva King. She was married to Harley Burleson for 20 years and later to Cecil Farmer for 34 years. She married W.H. 'Bill' Edgin on Nov 25, 1989.
She was a rural mail carrier in Lone Rock and Advance area. The post offices changed and the routes became longer during her 46-year career. Mail carriers in the Ozark hills were relied upon by residents to bring new good from the outside world. Frequently she found someone waiting at the mailbox with a bag in hand wanting to 'ride along' to town or to 'catch a ride' to a relative that needed 'tending'. Transportation was scarce, and she carried community news from one home to another as residents would meet her at the mailbox and discuss local events. She retired in 1981. She was part of the Ozark community all her life.
She belonged to Norfork Church of Christ, later changing her membership to the First Christian Church in Mt. Home.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Edgin of the home; four nieces, Iva Lackovic and family of Springfield, MO, Pamela Harris and family of Drury, MO, Nedra Arsenault of Ontario, Canada, Sandra McPeak of Wicket, Texas; one Nephew, Morrell Woods and family of Norfork; and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lloyd Woods and Garland Woods.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to Burnt School House Cemetery of Hospice of the Ozarks.
Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.
(From the files of Max Parnell.)

(Even though her surname was Edgin at the time of her death, her grave is marked Fern E. "Woods" Farmer.)
