LITTLE, Mrs. John - [from Walnut Hill) One of the most horrible accidents occurred here Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. John Little, who lived three miles south and east of Garfield, 1 1/2 miles east of Walnut Hill on what is most commonly known as the Tom Marshall farm. Mrs. Little, who has been in poor health for some time and at this time she was very weak, so Mr. Little put her medicine and water on a chair near her bed and left her saying, "Now, wife, don't get up; you might fall and hurt yourself." He went out to feed and milk but while milking he got so very uneasy about his wife that he just quit and went to the house. On opening the door he found the room filled with smoke. He rushed in to find his wife burned to death. He supposed she had walked to the fire and in some way her clothing caught. Half way between the fire and the bed a cushion on a chair was burning and Mrs. Little lay burned to death and was close enough to two beds so that the bed clothing on both beds were just beginning to blaze. He threw the pillows and mattress and the cushion out, thus saving the house from burning. He wrapped his wife up in the first thing he come to and rang an announcement over the phone and in just a few minutes help was at hand. Mrs. Little was 72 years old and had been a member of the Primitive church 30 years. Her body was interred at Walnut cemetery Friday, March 29th, Eld. J.W. Taylor conducting the services. We certainly do extend to Mr. Little our heartfelt sympathy and can only say our loss is her gain.
