Mrs. Addie McDuffee Summerland, 70, of Hamburg died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. A native of New Edinburg and a resident of Hamburg for the past 50 years she was a homemaker and a member of the North Main Baptist Church in Hamburg. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Thomas McDuffee; an infant son, Bobby McDuffee; her parents, John & Dura Best Cathey; a brother, Elton Cathey and a sister, Madge Cathey. She is survived by her husband, John W. Summerland of Hamburg; two sons, Roy Thomas McDuffee of Hamburg and Jesse Eugene Buck of Hornbeck, LA; a daughter, Amelia Louise Newman of Germantown, TN; a brother, Joe Cathey of Hamburg; two sisters, Agnes Carver of Hamburg and Maxine Ellingsburg of Dumas; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 7, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Rev. Ware Russell officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Newman, Jr., Brian Thomas Newman, Eugene Buck, Clifton Murphy, Romy Greer and Joey Walton. Grave-side services were 3 p.m., Thursday in the Salem Cemetery at Bearden. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Hamburg High School Scholarship Fund, c/o Mrs. Dot Higginbotham, 518 S. Main, Hamburg, AR 71646.
