Jackie Leroy Dowdle the husband of Karen (Sipe) Dowle. Jackie Leroy Dowdle the son of Cecil Dowdle and Ola Frances Hendrix Dowdle.


MOUNT PLEASANT — Jackie L. Dowdle, 67, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, in Batesville. Born July 27, 1940, he was the son of Cecil and Ola Frances Hendrix Dowdle.

He was united in marriage to Karen Sipe on Jan. 17, 1964.

He served in the U.S. Army with "The Big Red One" unit during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant. During his years in the army, he was a member of the Rifle Team, was honored with a Top Sniper Award and played on the army basketball team.

He was employed by McDonnell Douglas Airplane Manufacturing in Melbourne, retiring after 28 years of employment. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years; two daughters, Regena Womack and
Tangy Dowdle, both of Melbourne; a brother, Rick Dowdle; two sisters, Dodie Sherrells and Sherry Garrison, both of Melbourne; four grandchildren, Jackie Womack, Allie Womack, Kali Treat and Jacob Treat, all of Melbourne; five nephews, Lanny Garrison, Lane Wakeo Garrison, Ryan Dowdle, Cecil Dowdle and Wil Dowdle; and an aunt, Ellen Neeley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jimmy Dowdle; and a
daughter, Shawnette Treat.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Mount
Pleasant with Doyne Robertson and Justin Clark officiating.

Burial will be in Barren Fork Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Pallbearers will be Mark Herrington, Eddie Cooper, Connie Johnson, Steve
Johnson, Dale Smith and Ronnie Caraway.

Honorary pallbearers are R.W. Hollowell, Earnie Martin, Gus Sanchez, Shannon Womack, Jim Haley, Billy Givens, Darrell Garrison, Larry Shaw, Rayburn Finley, Conway Hames and Jeff Woodruff.
