Lena “Maxine” Smith, 86, of Calico Rock died Sunday, March 9, 2008 in Mountain Home.
She was born in Newburg, Arkansas on July 28, 1921 and was the daughter of Robert Lee Reid and Josie Bell (Clark) Reid. She was a homemaker, a member of the Extension Homemaker’s Club and a member of the Brockwell Church of Christ. She enjoyed her farm where she raised dairy cattle and crops and enjoyed canning. Maxine entered her canning in the local county fairs where she won blue ribbons and even Grand Champion Ribbons for her jelly.
She is survived by three sons: Kenneth Smith and his wife, Peggy of Mammoth Springs, Larry Smith and his wife, Marilyn of Calico Rock, and Richard Smith of Sidney; one sister, Lorene Neal of Melbourne; and three grandchildren: Kenneth Smith of Melbourne, David Vest of Mountain Home and Teri Eberhardt of Umatilla, Florida.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Smith; an infant daughter, Janice Smith and one brother.
Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with Finis Brewer officiating.
Burial will follow the services at Oxford Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Pallbearers are Phil Ferguson, Carl Russell, Rick Knowles, Larry Hill, Donnie Wortham and Rick Schiltz.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
