PARKER, John - The funeral of John Parker, who died at his residence on Tuesday at 1 p.m. will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. from the house. Burial at Butler Creek Cemetery. Funeral services by Rev. Shipley. John Parker was one of our oldest and most respected citizens and the Record will present in the next issue the obituary.

John Parker was born at Easton, Pa. on the 21st of January 1844. He was the only child. His father died when he was 3 years old and mother when he was 6 years old. After the death of his parents he went to live with an uncle and continued to live with him until he enlisted in the army as a private on the 21st day of March 1862, for 3 years or during the war. After the war closed he took the money he received from the government and went to school. After a short term of school he entered the service of the Lehigh Valley Railroad and was promoted from a subordinate position to assistant foreman of the car shops of the company which position he resigned when he came west to Kansas in 1877 where he took up a claim near Ellsworth. In 1880 he moved to Sedan, Kansas where he entered the mercantile business. Here he was married to Miss Lottie May Stout on the 17th of October, 1883 and moved to Sulphur Springs in August, 1885 when Charles was just one year old. He bought the lots corner of Hibler avenue and Springs streets and during the winter built the building now occupying this ground - the first business building built in this town. Here he conducted a general store and postoffice for years. He sold out and went west for his health but returned after a few years and again occupied this building with a grocery, retiring from that a few years ago. His health had been very poor for years, although he had tried various climatic changes for relief. He was a well respected citizen. He leaves a wife and son to mourn his departure.

PARKER, Lottie M. STOUT - Lottie M. Stout Parker, fifty-nine years old, died at her home in Sulphur Springs, Ark. July 28th. Mrs. Parker was born in Marion county, Indiana Nov. 18, 1861; married to John Parker at Sedan, Kan. Oct. 18, 1883; came to Sulphur Springs in 1885. Surviving are her son, Charles Parker, Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Spahr, Pierson, Iowa and Mrs. Clara V. Heckman of this place. Three brothers, D.F. Stout, Neosho, Mo., L.M. Stout of this place and Albert F. {Dick} Stout, Paradise, Montana. Funeral services were held on Saturday morning at the Methodist church and were conducted by Mrs. Chester F. Harris and local Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Burial was made in the Butler creek cemetery. She filled with credit all the various spheres of life; she was a kind and helpful daughter and those of us who remember her parents know that the tender affection of their children sustained them in the darkness of their last hours. As a wife she lived up to her highest ideals and her home and her husband received the best she had to give. She was a true mother and her only child was the recipient of all that sacrifice and devotion which flows nowhere so freely as from a mother's heart. She was rich in friendships, proving that to win friends you must be one. Her months of illness were brightened by their gracious acts of kindness and of love.
