Noe [relocated] Cemetery
Marion County,
Arkansas

This scanned item was copied from the completion report of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that is dated January 18, 1950. The Corps report is on large pages that are 11" X 16" and contain more information, but only portions of the report were scanned for the Arkansas Gravestones.org posting.

This surveyor's plat is of the relocated Noe Cemetery which was moved to Promise Land and placed adjacent to and on the west side of the existing Promise Land Cemetery. The plat shows the location of the graves in the cemetery with the plot number and name of the individual interred in each plot. It also shows the location in the center of the cemetery of the large family monument that was moved from the original cemetery.

The names of the six Noe family members that are buried north of the monument are inscribed on the north face of the monument. The six Noe family members that are buried south of the monument are inscribed on the south face of the monument. The names of three of the five Noe family members that are buried west of the monument are inscribed on the west face of the monument. The names of family members Jeff Horn and Melvin Noe are not inscribed on the monument. It is assumed that they died after the monument had been erected in the old cemetery. The most recent death date of the individuals listed on the monument is 1906; therefore, it would appear that these family members died sometime after 1906 and prior to the relocation of the cemetery in 1949-1950.

The Corps of Engineers arranged for spaces for future burials on the east side of the monument, but no burials have taken place since the cemetery was relocated. The east face of the large monument is blank.

The grave of James Parker is shown in the southwest corner of the cemetery. He was the only non-Noe family member buried in the cemetery, and the location of his grave corresponds to the location of his grave in the original cemetery.

The surveyor's NOTES at the bottom of the plat are as follows:
1. GRAVES ARRANGED ON NORTH, SOUTH AND WEST SIDES OF MONUMENT IN SAME ORDER THAT NAMES APPEAR THEREON.
2. * MEMBERS OF NOE FAMILY WHOSE NAMES DO NOT APPEAR ON MONUMENT.
3. ** NOT A MEMBER OF THE NOE FAMILY. GRAVE IS LOCATED IN SAME RELATIVE POSITION AS IN NOE CEMETRY, AS REQUESTED.
4. *** NAME SHOWN HERE AS ON FAMILY MON. IS SAME PERSON REFERRED TO ELSEWHERE AS ROSE L. NOE-PLUMLEE.

See the Arkansas Gravestone.org posting "Noe Cemetery, Original Plat" to see the arrangement of graves in the original Noe Cemetery.
