Tom 'Tommy' Willis and Otis Benegar had been quarreling over a woman that both of them had been dating and Tommy told had Otis that if he saw him with her again that he, Tommy, would kill him.
They met when the three of them along with a witness, Will Benegar, were on their way to church. Both Tommy and Otis pulled their knives. In the fight that followed both Tommy and Otis were mortally wounded.
After Tommy lay dead on the ground from his wounds Otis fell to the ground across a big rotting log. Still in a blind rage, as he lay dying he repeatedly slashed at the log. He died there lying across the log.
One man was buried one day and the other the next.
Otis is buried in the Wayton Cemetery at Wayton, Newton Co. Arkansas.
