Elsie DeBerry Goode, of Conway, was born November 1, 1919 in Holland, AR to Porter and Hattie McGaha DeBerry. She passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on July 11, 2008. She was the beloved wife of V. C. Goode and had she lived they would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on July 24.
She is survived by: three daughters, Shirley Spears and her husband Charles, of Branson, MO; Judy Brown and her husband Lloyd, of Benton, and Laveda Hughes and her husband Joe, of Little Rock; seven grandchildren: Cherie Spears Walker and her husband Jim, of Coppell, TX; Chip Spears and his wife Darla, of Franklin, TN; Kim Simmons of North Little Rock; Kevin Hughes and his wife Karen, of Little Rock; Kristy Evans and her husband Scott of Little Rock; Chris Spears and his wife Pam, of Branson, MO, and Kent Simmons and his wife Vicki of Tulsa, OK; 14 great grandchildren; sister Mildred Land, of Conway, nephew, Roger Price and his wife Kay, of Conway, nephew, Porter Williams, of Waco, TX, niece, Karen Jones, of Paducah, KY; brother-in-law, Dwayne Goode and his wife Elaine, of Conway and a host of other family, friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Faye Price, Elizabeth DeBerry, Edith Williams, Martha DeBerry, Juanita Rennie and brothers, Harold DeBerry and Mutt DeBerry. Mrs. Goode had been a member of Harlan Park Baptist Church since 1971. She was a member of the Baptist faith since she was 13 years of age. Her faith and dedication to the Lord was an inspiration to her family and friends. Mrs. Goode and her husband sang with The Gospel Heirs Quartet for seven years and traveled throughout Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas spreading the Gospel in song. Mrs. Goode worked for J. C. Penney for 25 years before her retirement. The family would like to thank Grace Healthcare of Benton, Hospice Home Care and Saline Memorial Hospice for the loving care shown to her and her family. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Chip Spears, Kevin Hughes, Chris Spears, Kent Simmons, and Scott Evans: great-grandson, Brandon Hughes, and nephews: Roger Price and Porter Williams. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, at Harlan Park Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Holland.


Vernon Clifton "V.C." Goode, 90, of Conway was born October 12, 1918 in Holland, AR to the late William Alva "Preach" and Retha (Surratt) Goode. He passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on October 25, 2008.
He was the beloved husband of Elsie (DeBerry) Goode, who passed on July 11, 2008 and had she lived they would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on July 24th.
Mr. Goode had been a member of Harlan Park Baptist Church since 1971. He served as a Deacon for over 50 years and was a Deacon Emeritus at time of his death. He was a member of the Baptist faith for 70 years. He served as Minister of Music and Education at several Baptist churches. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Italy with the 175th General Service Engineers as a Staff Sergeant. He was also a Mason for over 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion.
Mr. Goode and his wife sang with The Gospel Heirs Quartet for seven years and traveled throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas spreading the Gospel in song. His faith and dedication to the Lord was an inspiration to his family and friends.
Mr. Goode worked for Central Arkansas Transit for seventeen years before taking over his father's barbershop in 1964 from which he retired in 1981.
He is survived by three daughters, Shirley and Charles Spears, of Branson, MO; Judy and Lloyd Brown, of Benton; and Laveda and Joe Hughes, of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Cherie (Spears) and Jim Walker, of Coppell, TX; Chip and Darla Spears, of Franklin, TN; Kim Simmons of North Little Rock; Kevin and Karen Hughes, and Kristy and Scott Evans of Little Rock; Chris and Pam Spears, of Branson, MO; and Kent and Vicki Simmons, of Tulsa, OK; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother Dwayne and Elaine Goode; nephew Grant Goode; nieces, Cindy Goode and Leslie Cobb; all of Conway; and a host of other family, friends, and loved ones.
The family would like to thank Grace Healthcare of Benton and Saline Memorial Hospice for the loving care shown to him and his family, especially Kyla and an angel in purple, Kyristina.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 27, 2008 at Oakland Cemetery in Holland, AR, his grandsons will serve as pallbearers, with Rev. Gerald Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harlan Park Baptist Church, 1895 Dave Ward, Conway, AR, 72034 or Saline Memorial Hospice, 23157 Hwy I-30, Bryant, AR, 72022.
