BOYER, W.J. - A man named Boyer, who lives on the old W.M. Keith farm at Cherokee City, was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon by his son-in-law and daughter, J.S. Allen and wife, who lived on the same place. Report says that a family row came up over the division of a barrel of sorghum and that during the melee the father was shot. Both Allen and his wife were arrested and the coroner's jury which was impanelled by a justice of the peace failed to agree. A later report, which was telephoned, states that the coroner's jury discharged J.S. Allen and that the jury stood ten to two for the acquittal of Mrs. J.S. Allen. The inquest was held before Squire Orlando Dickson who telephoned to Attorney L.H. McGill for legal advice.

W.J. Boyer, an old gentleman about 60 years of age, living in Coon Hollow, about six miles northwest of Gentry, was shot and almost instantly killed by his married daughter, Mrs. Allen, Wednesday. According to the account given by those living in the vicinity of where the tragedy occurred, Allen and his wife lived with Boyer and were preparing to move out, having had some previous trouble, when a quarrel over the division of some molasses occurred; the old gentleman and Allen were at the barn when the former drew his knife and made for Allen, Allen fired his gun, the shot striking Boyer in the side but had little effect, after which the men clinched and were scuffling when Allen called to his wife for assistance; she grabbed another shot gun and shot her father thru the neck with the above result. We understand that a coroner's jury was empanelled to investigate the case but failed to reach a verdict, a majority of the jury being in favor of acquitting the woman. Boyer's remains were buried in the Dickson cemetery yesterday.
