Dr. J. M. Rector practiced at a number of towns in Arkansas, primarily north central Arkansas. His last place of practice was at Norfork where he also served as postmaster. He was the father-in-law of Dr. Zachariah Taylor Sheid, who studied under Dr. Rector, and who practiced in Norfork for many years.

Dr. J.M. Rector, postmaster at Norfork died last Tuesday from a stroke of paralysis. He was buried there Wednesday. Dr. Rector was one of the oldest and best known physicians in this section of the state.
