Calico Rock Progress - Oct 13, 1950 – "Uncle Bob" Campbell Dies at Age of 91

A long and useful life came to an end Friday, October 6, when one of this section's best known citizens, Robert Alexander Campbell, died at his home at Dolph, at the age of 91 years 8 months and 19 days. His death was not unexpected, as he suffered a stoke some two weeks preceding his passing.

Mr Campbell was born at Sereptia, Miss., and came with his parents to this section at the age of two years. The family settled in the Dolph community, the place where Mr Campbell lived at the time of his death. So, he was truly one of the early pioneers of this section, typifying the quality of citizenship that stood for the better things of life and carried on a continuous struggle for up building the churches, the schools and other worthy institutions.

He was married to Susie Perryman October 22, 1876, who preceded him in death by eight years. To this union 4 children were born, 3 surviving. One son, Herbert, departed this life in 1924.

"Uncle Bob" as he was known to every one, was converted at an early age and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Tremble's Campground, where he remained a faithful member until death. He served as ruling elder of this church for more than 60 years.

Surviving him are an aged sister, "Aunt Lizzie" Perryman; one daughter, Miss Emma Campbell of the home; two sons, A. G. Campbell of the home and W. R. Campbell of Mountain Home, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at Tremble Campground Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock, by Rev. J. C. Williamson and Rev. Y. Whitfield of Pineville.

Burial was in Trimble Campground Cemetery.

Mrs Susan Perryman Campbell, wife of Robert A. Campbell, passed away at the family home near Dolph, Saturday morning, after an illness of several weeks. She was 85 years of age.

The passing of this saintly character ends a long and useful life. She was born in Rutherford Co., TN a daughter of Steve and Elizabeth Perryman, who moved to Izard County when the subject of this sketch was a child. She resided in this county the remainder of her life. She was married to Robert A. Campbell 65 years ago. Mrs Campbell united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Trimble Campground early in life and remained a member of that church till called by death. Her life was marked by strict devotion of her family and her church, being one of this sections' most outstanding Christian women.

Surviving, are her husband; a daughter, Miss Emma Campbell of Dolph, 2 sons, A. G. Campbell of Dolph and Wm. R. Campbell of Batesville and fourteen grand-children.

The funeral, conducted by Revs. D. R. Robertson of Mt. Olive and Y. Whitfield of Pineville, was held Sunday at 3 p.m., at Trimble Campground, interment being in Trimble Campground cemetery.
