William Melvin (Mel) Finley, 79, of Norfork, a retired movie theater owner and longtime resident of the area, died at a hospital here on Wednesday of last week.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Norah Finley of Norfork; a son, William Melvin, Jr of North Little Rock; a daughter Mrs. Wanda (Roy) Roe of Foreman; two brothers, Cleve Finley of Star City and Elda Finley of Covington, TN; a sister, Mrs. Mary Beaty of Covington; and two grandchildren.
The son of the late Steve Finley and Amelia Moody Finley, Mr. Finley was born in Izard County on June 8, 1890, and had lived at Norfork for 45 years. Before his retirement, he owned and operated the Lyric Theater there for a number of years. He was a member of the Norfork Methodist Church.
Rev. Don Moore of Mt. Home and Rev. Paul Huskey of Norfork officiated at the funeral service last Friday at the Norfork Methodist Church. Interment was in the Norfork Cemetery, under the direction of McClure Service.
Pallbearers were W.S. Benbrook, Andy Simpson, Floyd Staggs, Jim Beard, John Luther, and Virgil Allen. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Horn, W.W. Langston, Lewis Smith, Virgil Killian, Quinby Swearingen, Fred Rogers, Ed Simpson and Tom Southard.
