VICKERY, James Jefferson - Our community was shocked last Saturday when the message was given out that Jeff Vickery had died. But few people realized that his illness of the past month was so serious. He had been suffering from mastoiditis. Part of the time he was about his work - that of erecting his new home, and then again he would be so ill that he would have to stay in-doors. Everything that he had dreamed was being realized in his new home which he was building just east of his father's house. It would have been an ideal home. Mortal man often wonders why these heart aches occur but we are not to know. Jeff was yet in the flower of manhood and was needed in the walks of life. He was a great favorite of most everyone for he had a winning way and an affectionate nature. He was a great lover of children and was always petting them and buying little gifts for some child. He was so loving to his kindred. Jeff obeyed the Gospel when in his teens and under the teaching of John T. Hinds and lived his religion daily. It is beyond human talent to live a perfect life on this earth but Jeff was the type of man that kept trying to live a better life. Funeral services were held at Cave Springs Monday and more than 300 people were present to pay their last tribute of respect to him. Elder Martin delivered the funeral sermon. The body was laid to rest in the Hart cemetery. Those who survive him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Vickery, his wife, his sister, Mrs. Pearl Sumner and his brother, Walter. A Friend.

James Jefferson Vickery first saw the light of day March 11th, 1893; died October 1st, 1927, buried at the Hart Cemetery October 3rd; obeyed the Gospel under the teaching of John T. Hinds in August 1906; was married to Miss Oma Schell November 1913. These are the interesting dates in a life nobly spent in our community as the 34 years and six months of his life were lived on the farm he was born on and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances, as more than 300 people were in attendance at his funeral which was held at the Church of Christ at Cave Springs Monday. Elder Martin delivered the funeral address. Those of us who knew Jeff most loved him best and his daily walk of life is one that can be followed in winning a crown of life. He was tender and affectionate to his parents and was building a new house just east of his father's home with a view of always seeing after them but alas the work of life was ended before the new house was finished and none of us realized his condition was serious until the news flashed of his death. He had been ill for the past month with an abscess in the mastoid bone and that with a weak heart hastened his death. His wife and parents, Tom Vickery and wife; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Sumners, and his brother, Walter, and little niece, Dorothy Sumners, are left to carry on. We all feel that the years associated with Jeff leaves them a happy past to remember and may they all look forward to a happy reunion in the Great Beyond.
