SLATES, child - The year old child of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Slates, who live four miles north of town on Sugar creek, was accidentally burned last Friday so badly that it died from the effects Sunday morning and the little innocent was laid away in the Oakes graveyard Sunday afternoon. The report of the sad accident is in effect that the mother had just built a fire in the cook stove and stepped out of doors for a moment leaving the child sitting near the stove and during her absence the little fellow climbed up and caught the brand with which the fire had been kindled, pulling the blazing board to its breast setting its clothes on fire and was fatally burned before its mother could come to its rescue.
