Michael Edward "Ned" Aikman was born in the Bluffton area of Yell Co., Arkansas and died July 1, 1864 in the General Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas. He enlisted with uncles and other relatives in 1863 when he was 14-15 years old. Records obtained from the National Archives indicate he died of diarrhea and measles. He was the eldest child of Dubois Gilbert Aikman and Cora Zipporah (Blagg) Aikman. His siblings were Benjamin Franklin, William Devoid, Nancy Jane and George Hadrick Aikman.
