The Baxter Bulletin
February 5, 1943
The Norfork school is closed this week as a precautionary measure against a diphtheria outbreak. One Norfork child died last week from the disease and as several other children had been exposed to this case the school was closed to watch developments and prevent further exposure. There are no other cases reported as yet, but parents are advised by Mrs. Edna B. Huber, county health nurse, to have their children given the Shick test to determine their immunity if they have been vaccinated at some previous time, or to get them vaccinated within a week of two if they have never had the immunization. Children should be taken to the physician for the Shick test as the health department does not give these tests, Mrs. Huber says.
