Steve W. Taylor, Oxford Citizen, Passes Away
Steve W. Taylor was born near Union, Ark., July 12, 1872 and passed away at his home at Oxford March 14, 1958, having reached the age of 85 years, 8 months and 2 days.
The end came not unexpectedly for his last illness was of long duration and death ended for him a comparatively long and useful life. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a true Christian in every respect.
He is survived by his companion of the home, Mrs Ida J. Taylor, two step-sons, Claude Caldwell of Melbourne and Adial Caldwell of Kansas City: five step-daughters, Mrs. O. C. Martin, Oxford, Mrs. J. B. Ballard, Calico Rock, Mrs. J. W. Stockton, Bristow, Okla., Mrs. Davis Patterson, Little Rock and Miss Ruby Caldwell of Union, Tennessee; many other relatives and innumerable friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Taylor were held Sunday afternoon, March 16 at the Oxford Church of Christ, where an overflow crowd of friends and relatives gathered in token of past friendship with the deceased.
The services were conducted by Elder Sam Kitchen, assisted by another minister both from Harding College, Searcy, and Rev. Remmel Rowden of Oxford. The song services were conducted by Hoyt Rowden.
Burial was made in the Oxford Cemetery by the White River Burial Service of Batesville. Pall bearers: Gordie Taylor, Steve Taylor, Olen Taylor, Bill Taylor, John Taylor and Andy Hatman.

Mrs. S. W. Taylor Called By Death
After an illness of many months, Mrs. S. W. Taylor died at her home near Oxford last Sunday night at 9 oclock.
Her death was not unexpected, as she had been in declining health for the past six years and of late months has been bedfast.
Deceased was born and reared in the vicinity of Oxford and practically all her life was spent in this county. She and her husband moved to Calico Rock about 28 years ago and with the exception of a few months residence in Carroll County, resided here until the first of this year when they moved to their farm near Oxford. Mrs Taylor was 64 years of age.
The death of Mrs Taylor removes one of this sections most beloved characters. Her positive character and willingness to help in church, school and civic movements were outstanding. Thoroughly unselfish in her innermost heart, kind and neighborly to all, she performed thousands of deeds that will stand as a monument to her Christian life and live in the memories of her neighbors and friends for many years to come. Early in life she united with the Baptist Church, living a faithful member until death.
Surviving are her husband, brothers, sisters and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. H. F. Vermillion, Pastor of the Baptist Church at Melbourne. Interment was at the Oxford Cemetery.
