Born in Galatia, Saline County, Illinois and died in Vidette, Fulton County, Arkansas
The son of Samuel Cline Cotter and Susan Oliver. Married in August 1849, Greene County, Tennessee, to Dicy Jane Beals, also buried in this cemetery.

William's father moved from his home in Greene Co., Tn to Indiana, then Illinois where William was born, back to Indiana, then back to Greene Co., TN. He became a Bee Keeper and Farmer like his Descendants. The family was Quakers living in Tennesse and Illinois until around 1872, when the family moved and homesteaded in Vidette, Fulton Co., Arkansas. Their home was a log home built with squared out logs jointed together and mud mortared. In 2008, the homestead is still owned by Cotter descendants, and the home
still stands strong.
