Loy C. Allen, a resident of the Miller community northwest of Bentonville, died suddenly at Carthage last Thursday morning of acute indigestion. He was in apparent good health the day before and wrote a cheerful letter home to his family. He lacked one month being fifty-six years of age. The body was returned here for burial. Funeral services were held at the Miller schoolhouse Saturday morning, the Rev. A.W. Henderson conducting the services. Burial was made in the Dug Hill cemetery. Mr. Allen was born in Marion County, Illinois January 31, 1876 and was married to Gertrude A. Sweaney of Alamosa, Colo. in 1911. They spent the next two years in traveling and came to Bentonville where they lived for a year and after purchasing a farm in the Miller community moved to it. He then took up teaching and taught until 1927 when he resumed his former work as a traveling salesman. He spent the Christmas holidays at home with his family and had resumed work a few days before his death. Besides his widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harold Waggoner of near Bentonville and Ona Allen of the home; also by three sons, Leo, Elmo and Lon, also of the home.
