Leroy Thornton, age 88, of Warren, AR. died Tuesday September 11, 2012 at Bradley County Medical Center. Born March 28, 1924 in Bradley County, AR. a son of the late Charlie Green Thornton and Wadie Smith Thornton he was a retired owner/operator of OTASCO and Coast to Coast for 25 years, a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer of the Fisherman's class, and previously servered as Sunday School superintendent and was head of the board of trustees. He was a member of the Warren Lions Club and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Also preceding him in death was a brother W.J. Thornton and sisters Louise Camp and Rachel Taylor.
Survivors are his wife Hilda Pope Thornton whom he married July 2, 1949. 1 son Doug Thornton, Warren, AR. 1 daughter Debbie Hairston and spouse Joe, Warren, AR. 4 brothers Leon Thornton, Charles Thornton, Billy Joe Thornton all of Warren, AR. and Kenneth Thornton, Sumpter, AR. 1 sister Charlene Ferguson, Star City, AR. 4 grandchildren Brian Hairston and spouse Amber, Monticello, AR. Kimberly McGaughey and spouse Kevin, Sherwood, AR., Alyx Knox and spouse Jess, Luling, TX. and Rane Thornton, Round Rock, TX. 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Thursday September 13, First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Maskell officiating. Joye Splawn was organist and soloist was Tom Martin. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer's Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Kevin Thornton, Keith Thornton, Gary Thornton, David Ferguson, Jimmy Dale Camp, Robert Camp, Sammy Roberts and French Wynne, III. Honorary pallbearers were members of Fisherman's Sunday School Class, Marlin Broach, Aber Gannaway and Robert Green. Memorials preferred First United Methodist Church; 111 W. Church; Warren, AR. 71671.
