October 20, 1938 - August 11, 2021

Jack Bates, 82, of Hot Springs was born October 20, 1938. He went home to be with the Lord on August 11, 2021 as a result of a breakthrough case of COVID. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lola Bates of Hot Springs; three brothers Junior, Winford, and Don Bates; and wife Helen Bates. Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dianne Bates, sister Sue and Don Beasley; one son, Jack and Rayanne Bates, of Fayetteville; two daughters Deidre and James Turner of Hot Springs, and Julie and Andres Gonzalez of Glenwood; nine grandchildren Jonathan Bates, Amy and Michael Gaddy, Andrew Payne, Seth and Kylie Payne, Caitlin Payne, Emily Turner, Mikayla Turner, Mariah Turner, and Kamilah Gonzalez; and nine great grandchildren. He was a graduate of Hot Springs High School and numerous trade schools where he honed his skill and passion for building and construction. Jack was the owner of Vantage Homes of Hot Springs Village and loved building homes in that community. Each home was a labor of love. He loved to plan and construct each and every home. He loved the details of building and to show off his projects at every opportunity (as his children can attest). Jack had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and started many businesses over the years in Hot Springs, Maryland, and Florida. As with any life where you are trying to make a living and a difference, there will be trials and tribulations, highs and lows. Jack had more than his fair share of trials and tribulations. What is a hallmark of his life, and for anyone who knew Jack, he never let the trials keep him down. When he was knocked down, he always got back up and kept moving. His faith, resilience, positive mental attitude, and work ethic kept him going and he never gave up. He had an underlying philosophy that if you have faith and do good things, good things will come. People loved to work with Jack and appreciated his kind and levelheaded nature, eternal optimism, work ethic, knowledge, skill, and professionalism. Jack’s relationship with the Lord was at the center of his life with a long tradition of serving. He was a founding member and on the Board of Encounter Church of Hot Springs. He was involved in Church planting and building his entire adult life and (without hesitation) helped build many churches across several denominations. This includes churches in Hot Springs, Maryland, and Florida. Jack was also a member of the Gideons International and loved to send the Word of God across the world. Jack was completely devoted to his family, and they were with him constantly. He also had a large extended family that is deeply rooted in the Hot Springs community that was a source of pride and very special to him. Jack was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and loved to watch football, basketball, and baseball. He was a Razorback through and through and kept up with the programs in detail. He was also deeply involved in Hot Springs softball over the years and sponsored many teams. There will be a celebration of Jack’s life Monday, August 16th at 6 PM at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 17th at 2 PM at the First Pentecostal Church (222 East Grand) followed by a graveside service at the Morning Star Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Bates, Seth Payne, Geoff Bates, Gary Scott, Brad Luehrs, Brian Calvin, and Joe Turner. The Family wishes a special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at the National Park Medical Center ICU who work tirelessly to help and comfort those in their care during this trying time. Also a special thanks to Dr. Sharron Mason. Memorials can be made to Encounter Church at (encounterchurchhs.churchcenter.com/giving) or Gideons International at (www.sendtheword.org)
