December 21, 1851 - February 26, 1922
*Obituary
Mrs. Katherine Thompson was born Dec. 21st, 1851, departed this life Feb. 26th, 1922. She was married to William Thompson Dec. 2nd, 1873. To this union was born 9 children, four of whom preceded her to the Glory World. She leaves two sons, Milton and Lafayette Thompson of Hope, and three daughters, Mrs. Janie Garrett, Sutton; Mrs. Blanche Riggins, Delta; Mrs. Ophelia Williams, Rosston, besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. She professed faith in Christ at an early age and lived a devoted christian life, always ready to help others by word or deed. Even in her great suffering she would speak of how tired her daughters were. Her suffering was intense, but she bore it patiently. How we miss the gentle voice and tottering footsteps that we hear no more, but we know she is at rest, free from sorrow and pain. The writer was personally acquainted with her for thirteen years and her life was a benediction, a devoted wife and mother, a kind and loving neighbor, we know her place cannot be filled, but we know God doeth all things well. The dread disease tuberculosis claimed her for its victim. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. G. S. Ward and D. W. Barham, after which the body was laid to rest in Mt. Olive Cemetery, to await the coming of our Lord, when the graves shall give up their dead to come forth in immortality to be forever with the Lord. Sleep dear loved one, sweetly sleep, God thy soul will guard and keep, while for thee we sigh and weep, Sleep dear lover one, sweetly sleep. Mattie Gammage (Nevada County Picayune - March 23, 1922)
