Albert Stewart MATHIS

*Cremations Cemetery
Pope County,
Arkansas

Oct 15, 1947 - Aug 3, 2024

Albert Stewart (Butch) Mathis of Russellville, AR passed to his heavenly home on August 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 15, 1942, to the late Charles “Sneaky” Mathis and Ethel Stewart.

Al served in the US Army and the US Navy and retired from the US Postal Service. He was an accomplished craftsman working with charcoal, wood, and ceramics. Albert also excelled in art. There isn’t anything that he couldn’t draw. Often drawing cartoons for his children that were “better than the real thing”. He spent his spare time collecting antique firearms and fishing lures. He became an expert in both fields. He was an avid, lifelong fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. A tradition that has now spanned 3 generations of his family. He was strong, honest, fair, and a truly brilliant man. He was a history buff and expert on wars throughout time. However, there wasn’t any subject that he couldn’t debate, or educate you on.

He was preceded in death by his brother Charles Mathis, Jr. and is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Peggy Lou Mathis, sons Hunter Mathis (Cindy), David Mathis, Bronson Mathis (Amber), grandchildren; Hannah, Hayden, Colin, Bryson, Tylyr, Taylyr, and Addison; his sister Loraine House Jenkins and many friends.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses on Floors 5E and Floor 6E at the Central Arkansas Veteran’s Health Care System.

To be absent from the body, is to be in the presence of the Lord.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 2:00pm in the chapel at A Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville, Arkansas.

Arrangements by A Natural State Funeral Service 2620 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. 501-982-3400. Online guestbook available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com
