Joel “Freddie” McLain age 63 of Hot Springs died, Monday, December 2, 2013 in a local hospital. He was born November 17, 1950 in Hot Springs to John C. and Mabel Rowell McLain. He was a graduate of Hot Springs High and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Freddie was injured in an automobile accident at the age of 19 and became a quadriplegia. At his death it was noted he was the longest living quadriplegia in the State of Arkansas. Freddie didn't allow his disability to stop him. He worked for the Arkansas Career Training Institute as a counselor. FreDdie was very outgoing, loved by many and led many to accept the Lord. He was a member of Trinity Church. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, John C. McLain, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Debra Palmer McLain of Hot Springs, one son, Bobby (Leslie) Sims, Jr of Benton; two daughters, Heather (John) Bradley of Buckville and Robin Salter of Hot Springs; one brother, Rod (Cheryl) McLain of Fort Smith; two sisters, Jan Emerson-Postelwate and her husband Jerry of Hot Springs and Jill (Steve) Merritt of Tupelo, MS; his mother-in-law, Marcell Buehler of Hot Springs; grandchildren, Ryan and Sky Riley, Screna and Andrew Foster, Zac Bradley, Blake Sims and Abigal and Samuel Salter; a host of nieces, nephew and extended family.

Due to the weather the funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Trinity Church 670 Panama Street. Visitation will start one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Scott McLain, Jeffery Emerson, Brandon Emerson, Alan Atkins, Joe Bonnette and Bill Randall. Honorary pallbearers will be ronnie Roach Brian Gaogill, Randy Robins, Bow Lowry, Gary Jackson, Cal Campbell, Willie Moon, Steve Fendley, Dr. William Wright, Dr. Robert Kleinnenz and employees of ACTI.

Memorials are requested to Trinity Church 670 Panama Street Hot Springs, AR 71913.
