*Obituary
Jay Edwin (J.E.) Sanders was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Port Arthur, Texas. He went home to be with the Lord March 28, 2023.

J.E. accepted Christ as his personal Savior over 60 years ago and has been an active participant in the life of the churches to which he has belonged. His parents, Jay and Rena Sanders, predeceased him.

J.E. left a small family -- he and his wife, Jerrie Ann McAdoo Sanders. They are both only children. J.E. left surviving his wife of over 50 years of marriage, two children: his daughter, Mary Candyce Sanders of The Woodlands, Texas, and his son, Jay McAdoo (Jay Mac) Sanders and his wife, Kristin Lee, of The Woodlands, Texas; and their five children: Anna Grace McAdoo Sanders, Jay McAdoo Edwin Sanders, Emma Jane Latham Sanders, Jasper Montgomery McLean Sanders and James Monroe Garland Sanders.

J.E. had an extensive work career as a state licensed real estate appraiser with Great Western Savings of California and was a real estate broker in California and Arkansas. He was a cost accountant with Hughes Aircraft, working on the original Surveyor Project budget and, finally, in the profession he loved most, law.

He graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1970 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and had a general and civil law practice for over 45 years in Hot Springs. Following his BSBA undergraduate work at the University of Arkansas, he served in the United States Marine Corps.

His service to the community was varied and included serving on numerous boards and assuming officer roles. He was chairman of the Lake Ouachita District of Boy Scouts of America, president of the United Way, president of the Hot Springs National Park Rotary Club, trustee at National Park Community College, president of the Hot Springs Country Club, president of the Board at Hot Springs Baptist Church, trustee of Second Baptist Church, president of the Arkansas Baptist Foundation and as he was oft quoted to say ... "I also do windows." J.E. was a deacon and a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed preparing and teaching his classes.

J.E. wanted this final statement regarding his life to be included in his obituary:

"In my lifetime, I have on more than one occasion climbed fool's hill. I even dallied there for a while, but Jesus beckoned me to a better journey and I responded. I asked and He forgave. I accepted the fact that His love was greater by far than my sin."

J. E. loved and he was loved; gave as good as he got with humor and kidding; was serious to a fault sometimes, but never at fault for loving too much his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He is the first of this family to be with Jesus and he looked forward, when the time comes, that He is joined for a big family reunion for a little family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to The Woodlands Christian Academy, where his grandchildren attend school. Checks may be sent to 5800 Academy Way, The Woodlands, TX 77384, to the attention of the Development Office. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 17, at First Baptist Church Hot Springs, 2350 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the service starting at 1 p.m. An earlier service was held at his local church, First Baptist Church The Woodlands.
