Randy Dean Teague of Hot Springs passed away on December 4th, 2020. He was born September 30, 1952 to Joe and Claudia Teague of Hot Springs and grew up in the Cutter Morning Star community.
He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Cynthia Gay Teague and Linda Teague Rodgers, brother Bruce Teague, and sons Jason Teague and Josh Buck Teague.
He is survived by his brothers Joe Teague Jr. and J.D. Teague, both of Hot Springs, son Luke Norman and wife Teresa, granddaughter Alyssa Book, and grandsons Layton Teague, and Jessie Teague. He had 1 great grandson, Brantley Black. He is also survived by nieces Jill, Sharon, Crystal and Becky and nephews Michael, Brackton, and Nash; great nieces and nephews Jordan, Dylan, Jesse, Abigayle, Dalton, Maggie-Rylee, Brayden, Logan, Brody, Libby, Bailey, Lilly, and Baker.
Randy began his musical career in his teens playing in various groups with his brother Joe. He later sang in the gospel group Sounds of Joy. He began playing restaurants and clubs in the Hot Springs area before moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the mid 1970’s performing as a duo with Steve Roach and later Paul Price. He was playing in the Hot Springs area at Coy’s when he was discovered by country music legend Del Reeves and made his debut in Nashville, Tennessee in 1978. Randy had a long career as a singer/songwriter that took him around the country, cutting his first single in 1982 along with his brothers JD and Bruce. Music was a constant throughout Randy’s life, and he influenced many young musicians to pursue their ambitions.
Randy also had a strong connection with nature and was a licensed tracker, he often traveled to New Jersey to train law enforcement on techniques used to find missing persons. He taught classes in the Hot Springs area on topics of tracking, meditation, and positive thinking. He was kind to all creatures as well as to the earth itself.
Randy had a deep love for his family. For the Teague’s, family gatherings were low key shows where the brothers picked guitars and sang the favorites. He had a powerful presence, and a spiritual light that people were drawn to. He loved Native American history, Buddhism, and Zen. He explored all aspects of spirituality in search of a deeper understanding of humanity and our place on this earth
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 8th from 2-6 pm at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Wednesday December 9th at 11am at Morning Star Cemetery.
