June 27, 1924 - August 28, 2016
Marjorie E. Byrum, 95, of Fort Smith passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, in a Cabot nursing home. She was born June 27, 1921, in Muldrow.
She married Leo Spencer Byrum on June 27, 1937, in Van Buren. Leo and Marjorie worked from 1942-71 in the golf business, where she ran the pro shop and he was a golf pro at courses in Durant, Van Buren and Fort Smith. They later operated several drive-in diners in Fort Smith. After retiring, she worked at Hunt’s Department Store and did volunteer work.
She was a member of Wood Memorial Christian Church in Van Buren, life member of Beta Sigma Phi and past member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a 40-plus-year survivor of ovarian cancer.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Debbie Walters of Cabot and Amy Comer of Greenwood; and four great-grandchildren, Steven and Mollie Comer and Matthew and Luke Walters.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her two children, Kay Mullen and Leo Spencer “Speedy” Byrum Jr.; and one sister, Shirley Nadine Branham Lloyd.
Entombment was at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home.
