JEFF VICKERY DIES
Our community was shocked last Saturday when the message was given out that Jeff Vickery had died. But few people realized that his illness of the past month was so serious. He had been suffering from mastoiditis. Part of the time he was about his work that of erecting his new home, and then again he would be so ill that he would have to stay in-doors.
Everything that he had dreamed was being realized in his new home, which he was building just east of his father's house. It would have been an ideal home, but the Divine Creator beckoned to him and called him home. Mortal man often wonders why these heart aches occur, but we are not to know. Jeff was yet in the flower of manhood, and was needed in the walks of life. He was a great favorite of most everyone, for he had a winning way and an affectionate nature. He was a great lover of children and was always petting them and buying little gifts for some child. He was so loving to his kindred. Jeff obeyed the Gospel when in his teens and under the teaching of John T. Hinds and lived his religion daily. It is beyond human talent to live a perfect life on this earth, but Jeff was the type of man that kept trying to live a better life.
Funeral services were held at Cave Springs Monday and more than 300 people were present to pay their last tribute of respect to him. Elder Martin delivered the funeral sermon. Jeff's favorite song, "Over There" was sung by the congregation. Also "In the Garden" "Never Grow Old," "No Disappointments in Heaven," were sung by Claude Williams, Margaret Elder, Kenneth Scott and Edgar Barnes. Flowers were brought by friends and were many and beautiful, expressing love and appreciation. The body was laid to rest in the Hart cemetery. Those who survive him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Vickery, his wife, his sister, Mrs. Pearl Sumner and his brother, Walter.-- A Friend.
