*Obituary
Richard Alan Gates, 64, of North Little Rock went to his heavenly home on Thursday August 25, 2011. Rick was born March 1, 1947 in Springfield IL to Robert "Bob" and Aldona "Al’ Gates. He is the third of five children, having two older brothers, Robert Herbert Gates and Michael Jerome Gates, a younger sister, Lynn Ellen Gates Weeks and younger brother Charles Lee Gates. Rick grew up in St. Louis, MO and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan. The family moved to North Little Rock when Rick was a teen. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1965 and joined the Air Force shortly after graduation. When Rick finished his stint in the military he met and married his wife of 38 years, the former Kathy Herrington. Rick had three sons Kristopher Richard, Matthew Alan and David Russell. He studied theology at Mid-America Seminary and served as youth pastor at Wattensaw Baptist church. Rick’s primary occupation was working in the print industry. He loved to describe his occupation as "stripper" which was a colorful way to say he worked in pre-press production. Rick retired from the printing industry when his place of employ, Capitol Offset Printing burned in 2002. In retirement, Rick has been a one man neighborhood watch. Looking out for neighbors and reporting anyone who did not seem to belong in the area. Rick was a long time member of Park Hill Baptist Church where he actively participated in the "cancer fighters" support group. In the battle against cancer Rick would be the first to give glory to God for his mercy and grace. Rick was ready to join the Father, to take his place in the many mansions Christ has prepared for us. Are you ready to meet Him? If not, please let Rick tell you how you too can know for sure that you will go to be with your heavenly Father when you die: Admit that you are a not perfect as God is perfect, you have done wrong and have sinned against God. Believe that Christ has paid the price for your wrongs, the ultimate sacrifice- death on the cross. Confess that Jesus is Lord and make him the one who guides you every step of the way for as long as you live.. Then thank God for what only He can give you- the gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
