Mr. Robert Leon Godwin, 72, of Prescott passed away, Monday, February 20, 2012 in Prescott, Arkansas. Mr. Godwin was born June 21, 1939 in St. Cloud, Florida to Leon and Millie Partin Godwin. He is preceded in death by his parents. In high school Mr. Godwin was a four star athlete in football, baseball and basketball. In football he was a triple threat due to his passing, running and kicking abilities. Mr. Godwin was a third generation cattle farmer that moved to Prescott, Arkansas in 1963.
His passion in life was cattle and horses. He was a two time top 15 qualifier with the International Rodeo Association in Bulldogging, also a member of the U.S. Team Pinning Association, where he enjoyed team pinning with family and friends. He was the owner of Godwin Ranches and had ownership in Godwin Feed Store, Nevada County Ranch Supply, Ottawa County Cattle Association Feed Lot in Minneapolis, Kansas, Godwin Trucking Company, Godwin Sales and Godwin Fertilizer Company.
The Godwin Family was selected as Nevada County's Farm Family of the Year in 1977. Mr. Godwin served on the Bank of Prescott's Board of Directors, a long time member of Nevada County Cattleman's Association, member of the Arkansas Cattleman's Association and the Southwest Arkansas Third District Fair and Rodeo Board. His social hours were spent with many friends at the Prescott Country Club and the Prescott VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sonya Lorenz Godwin; son, Robert Ed and wife Mary Cummings Godwin of Prescott, Arkansas; daughter, Jessna Godwin Youngblood and husband Kevin of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sisters, Bonnie Sams and Katherine Koger of Prescott, and Ruth Perry of Texarkana, Texas; grandchildren Robert Riley Godwin, Hunter Sims, Cassie Godwin, and Jon Robert Youngblood.
In lieu of flowers, the Godwin Family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Funeral service for Mr. Godwin will be 2 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. Burial to follow in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott. Bro. Neal Ridling will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8:00pm Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott. Arrangements are by Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home of Prescott.
