Joe Bill Alvis was the son of Ashley Nolen and Josephine 'Gower' Alvis. His parents were born in Marengo Co., Alabama. He was born shortly after his parents migrated to the Roseville area of Logan Co., Arkansas. He was a brother of John E. Alvis.
