August 26, 1915 - April 23, 1967
John H. "Punch" Allen, 51, of Hampton, drowned as a result of an auto accident Sunday at 1:40 p.m. about 1 mile north of the Calhoun-Union County line on highway 167. Allen was born August 26, 1915 in Ouachita County, the son of L. B. and Belle McWilliams Allen. He was a truckdriver for the Jet Asphalt Co. He is survived by his mother of Hampton; six daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Vines, Traskwood, Mrs. Patsy Suitor, Benton, Mrs. Belle Pennington and Mrs. Cleo Williams, both of Harrell, Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Ellis, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Shirley Pozega, McGuire AFB, N. J.; a sister, Mrs. Betty Hall, El Dorado; two brothers, Pete Allen, Arcadia, La. and Bill Allen, Talledega, Ala.; one half brother, Harold Dempsey; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Hampton with the Rev. Odis Reddin officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunn Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Active pallbearers will be Boyd Allen, Eddie Allen, Bobby Dempsey, Wayne Dempsey, Jerry Billingsley, and Jack Billingsley. The body will be taken to the home of Harold Dempsey Tuesday afternoon.
