HOMER, LA: Funeral services will be held for Mr. Rufus Harold Barnette, 83, at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, LA, on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 1:00 P.M., with Rev. Brian Thurman, officiating. Interment will be at Antioch East Cemetery in Magnolia, AR. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 P.M. Mr. Barnette was born February 10, 1935, in Magnolia, AR, to Harmon and Jurral Awbrey Barnette. He entered into rest on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in Homer, LA, following a sudden illness. Mr. Barnette served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked in the oilfield industry for Texas Eastern Gas Transmission in Houston, TX. Mr. Barnette was the founder and senior director of Bayou State Bowhunters Association, "BSBA." Both he and his wife, Juanita were inducted into the Bowhunter Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Louise Braswell and Tina Drewett; and a brother, Malvin Barnett. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Juanita Bennett Barnette; two sons, Ben Barnette and Greg Tew, both of Homer; a daughter, Angie Young and husband Pistol of Ville Platte, LA; three grandchildren, Joshua Barnette and wife Hannah of Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, LA, Madison Payne of Orlando, FL, and Alyssa Tew of Woodbridge, VA; a great-grandchild, Samuel William Barnette; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Ben Barnette, Greg Tew, Josh Barnette, Reggie Bennett, Lynn Bennett, David Braswell, Michael Braswell, and Mike Skinner. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Lantier, Mike Desadier, Orlando Beene, Billy Evans, and Johnny Coffey. In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Barnette, his family suggests St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
