Arnold Douglas Jones, 96, of Junction City, LA, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 at his residence. He was born February 27, 1924 to Logan and Effie Anglin Jones in Holly Grove, LA.
He married Olga Wells on July 10, 1942. Arnold was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in three major battles during WWII. He was in 3rd Army, 9th, 10th, 7th 802 Field Artillery, Battery B/Capt. Blumfield/Corporal. In November of 1943, at the age of 19, he entered basic training at N. Camp Hood, TX. He was also stationed at Fort Mead, MD, Camp Shanks, NY, Southern Wales, France and Europe (post Normandy Invasion), and Jefferson Barracks, MO where he was discharged in December of 1945. Arnold earned Major Battle Ribbons.

Arnold worked for Reynolds and Draper Lumber and Georgia Pacific Corporation at the El Dorado sawmill until he retired in 1999 after 50 years as plant manager. He served on the Junction City, LA City Council for 24 years including 2 years as Interim Mayor. He was a member of Junction City Baptist Church since 1947, serving as a deacon since 1951.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Jessie Anglin, and three siblings, Bill Jones, Evelyn Redwine, and Lourene Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 78 years, Olga Wells Jones of Junction City, LA; son, Doug Jones (Donna) of Little Rock; daughter, Karen Smith (Melvin) of Junction City; four grandchildren, Arnold Douglas Jones, III (Keri), Jon David Jones (Ashley), Tracy Edwards, Laurie Smith; nephew, Dr. Gerry Jones, niece, Jean Blount; and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Junction City fellowship hall.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, at First Baptist Church of Junction City with Rev. Jim Bynam and Rev. Claude Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

In keeping with CDC regulations mask and social distancing will be required.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 112 N. Myrtle St., Junction City, AR 71749.
