February 15, 1954 - June 14, 2020
Neal Greer of Norphlet, Arkansas passed away June 14, 2020 in Hot Springs, Arkansas after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of Buddy and Louise Greer and was born February 15, 1954.
He was preceded in death by his father, Buddy Greer. He is survived by his wife, Laura Greer; two daughters Alsie Blackmon (Zac) and Crystal Greer; step children Kyle Mitchan (Taryn), Donika Mitchan; his mother Louise Bryant Greer; two brothers, Nolan (Dusty) and Lance (Sondra) Greer, five grandchildren; a nephew, Lance (Lauren) Greer and nieces, Alex Greer, Jamie Blaise, Stacey Hancock; and many brothers and sisters in the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Neal proudly served in law enforcement with El Dorado Police Department and the Union County Sheriff's Office for a combined thirty eight years prior to his retirement in August, 2018. At UCSO, they always knew that they could go to him for information or evidence from prior cases, and he could provide it. His memory was always sharp and his attention to detail was unsurpassable. At the sheriff’s office, he will laughingly be remembered as PaPaw who taught them all that “slow and steady wins the race.”
He loved the Ouachita River and spent much of his time there with his river family. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, sitting by the fire, and visiting with anyone and everyone. Neal never met a stranger. The “lies” he could tell around the fire while singing Merle Haggard songs will bring smiles forever.
Neal said he would beat cancer. He did. He got to meet Jesus face to face.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Young's Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be at 10 Am Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Rest Haven Memorial Garden with Rev. Donnie Hargett officiating under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
Serving as pallbearers will be Henry Maroney, Mickey Valentine, Tim Orr, Randy Gilbert, Jim Sanders and Jeff Stinson. honorary Pallbearers will be Jamie Morrow, Donny & Ronny Anderson.
Memorials may be made to #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation, 145 Parker Drive, El Dorado, AR 71730
