John Henson Pickering, 78, of 2219 Lakeland St., died in a local hospital Sunday morning. He was born Dec. 25, 1889 and was the son of George T. and Pauleen Pickering. Pickering was the retired owner and operator of Pickering Grocery and was a member of the Parkers Chapel Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Felix G. Pickering and Gwinn F. Pickering of El Dorado; five daughters, Mrs. Roy D. Gathright, Mrs. Randolph Willett, both of El Dorado, Mrs. James R. Lucus of Crossett, Mrs. E. L. Purifoy of Bridge City, Tex., and Mrs. Lloyd George of Smackover, one brother, E. W. Pickering of El Dorado; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie F. Enis, Miss Betty E. Pickering and Mrs. Velma Chandler all of El Dorado, 25 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Monday in Young's Mortuary Chapel with Rev. W. W. Barron officiating and Rev. Noel Cross assisting. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young's Mortuary. Active pallbearers include Powell Pickering, John Pickering, Adolf Chandler, James Mason, Les Cooksey and James E. Goodwin. The family will be at 2219 Lakeland St. (El Dorado Daily News - May 8, 1967)
