Betro Clyde Bass, 61, of Smackover died Sunday morning in a Smackover hospital following a protracted illness. He was born July 23, 1904 in Columbia, Miss., and was the son of Eugene and Tina Fortenberry Bass. He was a pumper for McFarlane Oil Co., and had lived in the Smackover area for the past 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a deacon at the church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Bass of Smackover; two sons, Capt. Billy Bass, stationed at Huntington Beach, Calif., with the United States Air Force, and Eugene W. Bass of Little Rock; a daughter, Mrs. Billy Ed Heffington of Shreveport; nine grandchildren; and six brothers, W. H. Bass, Vernon Bass and R. A. Bass, all of Columbia, Miss, Coy Bass of Franklin, La., O. H. Bass of Eureka, Calif., and Bruce Bass of Pensacola, Fla. Funeral services have been announced for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Smackover with the Rev. D. C. McAtee and the Rev. Ben Bracken officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young's. Active pallbearers will be Donald Lambert, D. V. Sales, Bobby Newman, Jimmy Warnock, Cecil Smith and Jimmy Tennyson. Honorary pallbearers will include retired employes of Cities Service Co., employes of McFarlane Oil Co. and deacons of the First Baptist Church of Smackover. (The El Dorado Times - July 19, 1966)
