Odis Eugene “Gene” Rainwater, 83, of Strong, AR passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at his home.

Gene was born December 23, 1938 in El Dorado, AR to the union of V. Odis Rainwater and Vivian Gilbert Rainwater.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Della Kinard.

Gene worked for Prescolite for over 37 years where he was known as the best ping pong player, and retired from Milam Construction. He was a member of the Arkansas National Guard.

Gene spent most of his life in the Arkansas woods hunting and fishing at their camp on Lake D’Arbonne and the Ouachita River. After retirement he discovered his hidden talent of carpentry, building a unique house and dock at Moro Bay. He also enjoyed building barns, shops, and trailers for family and friends. He was a man that if it was “broken” he could repair it no matter what it was. Gene was a jack of all trades, however after moving to the farm in Strong, he acquired several cows, but quickly statee, “I’m no cowboy”. He loved family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Tona Kay Harrell Rainwater, one daughter, Tania Rainwater, one son, Lance Rainwater and wife Julie, all of Strong, two grandchildren, Landen Rainwater and Lily Kate Rainwater, that called him “PaPaw”, one brother, Wayne Rainwater and wife Gladys, one sister, Linda Reynolds and husband Terry, and several nephews and friends.



Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Bailey Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2022 in the Chapel of Bailey Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Malone officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado, AR.

Pallbearers will be Tim Rainwater, Joey Kinard, Jeff Mason, Jason Bell, Derrick O’Steen, and Scotty Oliver

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Jeans, Roy Black, Dan Oliver, Mike O’Steen, and Leon Rainwater.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial to the building fund at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2220 Pigeon Hill Rd. Strong, AR 71765
