Mary Louise Smalling, 96, passed away in Bryan, Texas on November 15, 2022.
Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 21, 2022 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in El Dorado, Arkansas.
Mary was born in Lapile, Arkansas, on November 23, 1925 the daughter of Thomas Loyd and Alton (Berry) Head. She graduated from Huttig High School in 1944. Mary married David Marion Smaling in 1952 and had a happy marriage for 50 years until his death in 2002. Mary went to work for First National Bank in El Dorado as a bookkeeper, she retired as Senior Vice-president in charge of Bank Operations more than 30 years later. Mary and David were members of 2nd Baptist Church in El Dorado for 40 years. They then retired to Hot Springs and were members of the 1st Baptist Church there. Mary and David spent many wonderful years in retirement, traveling extensively. After her husband passed away, Mary moved to Bryan, Texas to be near her son.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sister; and her husband, David.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steven David and Lisa Smalling, Jeffrey Alan and Shirley Smalling; grandchildren, Steven David Smalling Jr. and wife Tanya, Eleanor "Lanny" Morse and husband Casey, Kate Schneider and husband Topher; Two step-grandchildren, Brandy Lytle and husband Kevin, Bridgette De Felice and husband Joe, five great grandchildren and five great step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her extended family and friends. She was a marvelous cook (especially desserts). No one ever left Mary's table hungry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Hot Springs or St. Judes Research Hospital in Memphis (her favorite charity).
