Sister Mary Amata McGee, age 83, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away Sunday, December 12, 2004, in Barling, Arkansas. Sister Amata entered the Sisters of Mercy community February 2, 1940, and made her first vows August 16, 1942. From 1945 to 1982 she taught in schools in Arkansas, Texas, and Missouri. Sister ministered in the office at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, from 1982 to 1990, at which time she retired to St. John's Convent in Springfield, Missouri. Sister moved to McAuley Convent and Retirement Residence in Barling in 1995.
Rosary service was at 9:30 a.m. Friday at McAuley Convent Chapel in Barling. Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. Friday at McAuley Convent Chapel with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
