Shelby Jean Davis Harris, 77, of El Dorado, AR formerly of Leesville, LA; entered Heaven's gates on Sunday, July 3, 2016.
Shelby Jean was born on August 16, 1938 to Mildred Gandy Davis and Cecil Davis in Ruston, LA where she was raised. Shelby Jean met her sweetheart Joseph Tracy Harris, while attending Louisiana Tech University. Their love story began as a blind date. Shelby and Joe married on August 16, 1958, and were happily married for almost 58 years. Together they raised three daughters. Shelby Jean was a gentle spirit with many talents. She was a beautiful seamstress, and many called upon her to sew wedding dresses, bridesmaid's dresses, cheerleader uniforms, and other special garments. She enjoyed needlepoint, cross-stitch, crochet, knitting and cooking. Shelby Jean loved using her hands to serve others. She was at stay at home mom while her daughters were growing up. Shelby Jean worked as a secretary in her younger years. She worked at Leesville Florist and the Vernon Parish Police Jury.
Shelby Jean was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Mildred Gandy Davis of Ruston, LA and in laws Joe and Mary Helen Harris of Vivian, LA
Shelby Jean Harris is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joe Harris; three daughters Mary Kate 'Katie' Harris of Toro, LA, Jodie Harris Walker (Scott) of El Dorado, and Heather Harris Connell (Brian) of Bossier City, LA; five grandchildren Wes Walker (Jodie), Christopher Mills, Shelly Kate Mills, Molly Blaire Mills and Bryson Connell (Heather), a brother Dr. James Edwin Davis (Pat) of Ruston, LA ; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Hackler, Rev. Jonathan Kelly and Rev. Edgar Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends at Young's Funeral Directors Tuesday evening 5 pm to 7pm.
