Mary Jeanette Hamilton Trimble, Jay as she was known, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, in Little Rock, Arkansas, following surgery and rehabilitation to repair a broken leg.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Coy Trimble, and her son, Robert Bruce Trimble. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Jean Pool, of Houston, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Bell and Jessie Williamson Hamilton and her brother, Jack William Hamilton of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Jay was born on June 23, 1928, in El Dorado, Arkansas. After graduating from Little Rock High School, Jeanette cared for her mother, allowing her siblings to attend college. Thereafter, she met Robert Trimble and they married on August 23, 1958. Throughout Bob's career in the civil service, Jay provided unconditional support and tireless assistance while they were based in Arkansas, Texas and Colorado before returning to Arkansas in 1987. Prior to their son's birth in 1963, Jay taught Sunday school, and she and Bob were leaders of the youth group at Lakewood United Methodist Church.
A voracious reader, Jay had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and it was not uncommon for her to read at least one book a week. Although her interests ranged from fiction to non-fiction, and included history, religion, cooking, music and drama among other topics, she was most fascinated by genealogy. Conducting research in countless libraries and throughout voluminous resources across the US, she traced the lineage of her ancestors as well as her husband's.
It was Jay's quest for understanding that served as inspiration for Bruce who continued his education through graduate school, an achievement she was most proud of.
Jay was a quiet, kind and compassionate woman who was always willing to help others. Although she was physically unable to attend church, she supported Lakewood United Methodist Church since 1987, when Bob and Jay returned to Arkansas.
In addition to volunteering at several church libraries, she supported several causes to include the homeless, animals and Methodist ministries.
Memorials may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Road, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116-7421.
A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 at Lakewood United Methodist Church.
