Elizabeth A. Hess, 97, left this life May 26, 2009. She was born September 3, 1911 in Fort Smith and was a life long member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Miss Hess, was a 1928 graduate of Saint Anne's and went on to Fort Smith Business College.
Miss Hess was a bookkeeper for several construction companies in this area and in Denver, Colorado. She retired at the age of 90 after many years of employment with Buckner and Fleming Construction Company.
She enjoyed being in the service clubs, The Catholic Business Women and Women in Construction.
Miss Hess was preceded in death by her parents: Mary C. and Wallace V. Hess and a sister: Mary Teresa Scherrey.
Miss Hess is survived by three nephews: Paul E. Scherrey III and his wife: Patricia, of Fort Smith; Wallace A. Scherrey and his wife: Theresa, of Petit Jean State Park and Thomas J. Scherrey and wife: Nancy of Fort Smith; one niece: Mary Beth Cozort and her husband :Harold of Fort Smith and six grand-nieces and grand-nephews: Marilyn Reese, Christina Scherrey, Vince Scherrey, Matthew Scherrey, Thomas Scherrey, Jr. and Michael Scherrey.
Rosary Service was held on Thursday, May 28, 2009 in the St. Anne's Chapel. Memorial Mass was held at 11:15 Friday, May 29, 2009, in the St. Anne's Chapel. Father Jack Vu, officiated both services.
Miss Hess donated her body to science at the University of Arkansas Medical Science in Little Rock, Arkansas. Remains are interred at Calvary
