John Cecil Stanton, 57, of Conway passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He was born July 16, 1951, in Little Rock, AR. He was a 1969 Graduate of North Little Rock High School. He graduated from the University of Central Arkansas and numerous extended banking education courses. He retired from Bank of the Ozarks in 2006. He was a one time board member of several organizations in Conway, including Young Business Men’s Association, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Conway, Boys and Girls Club, Conway Public Schools and Civil Service Commission of Conway. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Conway. John loved to golf with his friends, and was an avid fan of the Wampus Cats. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years Helen (Sisco) Stanton, who cared for him during his illness. He is also survived by a daughter Mandy Stanton of North Little Rock; a son and daughter-in-law, John Eric and Erin Stanton and their son John Brayden all of Conway; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bob Balentine of Vilonia; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Cathy Stanton, of Maumelle; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Roy Tuggle of Puyallup, WA; a sister, Carol Fullaway of Vilonia; a cousin Meredith Oakley of Little Rock; a sister-in-law, Jeannie Thompson, of North Little Rock; in-laws Gene and Irma Lea Sisco of North Little Rock; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Muriel Stanton; and two brothers-in-law, Bernie Fullaway and Steve Thompson.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home, 801 8th Ave. Conway, AR. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church 1610 Prince St., Conway, with Rev. Charles Murry officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Bishop, John Bishop, Buzz Bolding, John Carpenter, Brent Clark, Mark Peterson, Joe Pruett, Coy Roberts and Cecil Ward.

The family wishes to thank Arkansas Hospice of Conway. A special thank you is also extended to Steve Harper, Stacy Paparic, Georgia Moseby, Tiffany Long, Ashley Jackson and Micheal Wyatt and many others who have been helpful during his illness. The family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to Barbara Balentine and Carol Fullaway for their gracious care and help.
