On Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, Dr. George Bratton, loving father of two children, passed away at age 73.

George was born on April 22, 1948, in West Memphis, Arkansas, but grew up in Earle, Arkansas. He was born to Samuel and Pauline Bratton of Earle, Arkansas. He completed his undergraduate education at Hendrix College, then received his PhD in Mathematics from Mississippi State University. He was a tenured Professor at the University of Central Arkansas for 27 years.

George had a passion for football, boating and living the Salt Life.

He also loved to cook and host tailgate parties in support of the UCA Alumni, and he combined his two favorite hobbies to create extraordinary art of gumbo and football to make people happy and smile. He was also an avid lover of Jimmy Buffett and taking care of people. George would fry multiple turkeys every year at Thanksgiving for various charities and always supported his local Methodist church.

He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Sam. He is survived by his two children, Katherine Travis and her husband Jassen; along with their children, Chris, Hunter and Zoe and Amy Bratton and her husband, Robin McGuirk, with their son, Theo. George was also very blessed to have his fiancé, Shea Cantabery, with him for the last eight years and was loved by her children, Abby King and John Cantabery and their families.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, at the Conway First United Methodist Church, 1610 Prince St. at 11 a.m. The family asked that you come wearing your best Jimmy Buffett/Hawaiian-themed shirt or something equally colorful as that was George's request, cause it was always 5 o'clock somewhere.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make donations to the Methodist Children home or the UCA Alumni on his behalf.
